Analyzers

Analyzers

Plug-ins that measure or describe the selected audio without changing it.

An analyzer reads the selection and tells you something about it. Nothing is written back to the audio: the result arrives either as a message on screen or as a set of labels in a new label track, which you can then use to navigate or to drive further edits.

Where to find them

The Analyze menu.

Notes

Analyzers need a selection to work on, and they only look at the audio inside it. Selecting the whole of a track before running one is the usual starting point.

Because nothing is altered, an analyzer is safe to run at any time, and running one is not something you need to undo — though analyzers that add labels do create a label track, and that addition can be undone.
