Effects
Pitch and Tempo
Effects that change how fast audio plays, how high it sounds, or both.
Pitch and tempo are separable in this group: you can raise the pitch without speeding the audio up, fit a recording to a new length without changing the key, or move both together the way a tape machine would. There is also a stretch effect for pulling short sounds out into long textures.
Where to find it
The Pitch and tempo submenu of the Effect menu, with audio selected.
Notes
Changing pitch or tempo independently means resynthesising the audio, so large moves leave audible artefacts — a smeared or watery quality on transients. Small corrections are usually clean; anything drastic is a creative effect rather than a repair.
Effects that change tempo or speed also change the length of the audio they are applied to, so tracks that were lined up before may not be afterwards.
- Change Pitch Shift the pitch of the selection without changing how long it lasts.
- Paulstretch Stretch audio by extreme factors to produce sustained, ambient textures.
- Sliding Stretch Change tempo and pitch continuously across the selection, from a starting amount to a finishing amount.
