Fade In
Ramp the selection up from silence to full level in a straight line.
Fade In applies a linear fade to the selected audio: silence at the start of the selection, rising evenly to the original level at its end. Use it to bring a piece of music in, or to cover the click at the head of a clip.
Where to find it
Effect → Fading → Fade In, with audio selected. There is no dialog — the fade is applied as soon as you choose it.
Notes
The fade always covers exactly the selection, so the length of the fade is set by how much you select, not by a setting. Select two seconds and you get a two-second fade.
The ramp is a straight line in amplitude, which sounds like a fairly quick start followed by a long approach to full level. For a curve you can shape yourself, use Adjustable Fade.
Applying it twice compounds the two ramps rather than repeating one, giving a much slower start.
