Fade Out
Ramp the selection down from full level to silence in a straight line.
Fade Out applies a linear fade to the selected audio: full level at the start of the selection, falling evenly to silence at its end. Use it to end a piece of music, to close a recording cleanly, or to remove the click at the tail of a clip.
Where to find it
Effect → Fading → Fade Out, with audio selected. There is no dialog — the fade is applied as soon as you choose it.
Notes
The fade always covers exactly the selection, so the length of the fade is set by how much you select, not by a setting. Select five seconds and you get a five-second fade.
The ramp is a straight line in amplitude. Because loudness is not linear, this sounds like a slow start to the fade and then a rapid drop away at the very end. For a fade that sounds more even, or one you can shape yourself, use Studio Fade Out or Adjustable Fade.
