Effects
Delay and Reverb
Effects that add repeats or a sense of space to a dry recording.
Both effects in this group work by adding delayed copies of the signal to itself. A delay does it with a handful of distinct repeats you can count; a reverb does it with a dense wash of reflections you hear as a room rather than as echoes.
Where to find it
The Delay and reverb submenu of the Effect menu, with audio selected.
Notes
These are the effects that make a close-miked, dead-sounding recording sit in a place. A small amount is usually enough — if you can clearly hear the effect as a separate thing, it is probably too much.
Delay and reverb both add sound after the end of the original, so leave some silence at the end of the selection for the tail to occupy, or it will be cut off.
Reverb can also be added to a track’s effects panel and heard live during playback — see Realtime Effects.
- Reverb Place a dry recording in a room by adding a dense wash of reflections.
- Delay Add a series of decaying repeats to the selection, optionally shifting pitch or spacing.
