Delete selection center frequency

Removes the centre frequency of a spectral selection with a notch filter as wide as the selection. If the selection has only one frequency bound rather than two, the effect filters everything above or below it instead, so a single command covers notching, high-pass and low-pass work on a spectral selection.

Effect → Spectral tools → Delete selection center frequency.

There are no settings: the filtering is decided entirely by the selection.

Making the selection

The track must be showing a spectrogram before you can make a spectral selection — see Toggle Spectral View. Drag in the spectrogram to mark a time range and a frequency range, then apply the effect.

Notes

Which filter is used depends on the bounds you set. With both an upper and a lower bound, a notch is applied at the centre frequency, its width taken from the selection. With only an upper bound the audio is high-passed; with only a lower bound it is low-passed.

A 10 ms fade at each end of the selection keeps the transition smooth.

A very low lower bound combined with a very wide selection cannot be turned into workable notch settings; the effect then reports an error and suggests raising the low frequency bound or narrowing the selection.
