Reverse

Reverse turns the selected audio back to front, so the last sample becomes the first. Sounds keep their pitch and content but lose their shape: a note that decayed now swells, and speech becomes unintelligible.

Where to find it

Effect → Special → Reverse, with audio selected. There is no dialog: the effect applies as soon as you choose it.

Notes

The classic use is the reversed swell before a beat — reverse a cymbal crash or a chord, and it grows into the downbeat instead of decaying away from it.

Reverse is also half of a useful trick with effects that only build forwards. Reverse the selection, apply a delay or reverb, then reverse it back, and the tail arrives before the sound instead of after it.

Applying Reverse twice returns the audio exactly to where it started.
