Spectral Tools
Effects that act on a rectangle of time and frequency marked out in a spectrogram.
Ordinary effects act on a stretch of time and treat every frequency in it the same way. Spectral tools act on a rectangle instead: a range of time and a range of frequency, marked out by dragging in a spectrogram. That lets you remove or adjust one sound — a whistle, a cough, a resonant ring — while leaving everything around it in the same moment untouched.

Making the selection
These effects need a spectral selection, so the track has to be showing a spectrogram before you can make one — see Toggle Spectral View. Drag in the spectrogram to select both a time range and a frequency range; the effect then acts only on that rectangle.
Notes
Several of the tools change what they do depending on how the selection is made — with two frequency bounds they work on the band between them, with one bound they filter everything above or below it. Each effect’s own page says which behaviour applies.
- Delete selection Remove the band of frequencies marked out by a spectral selection.
- Delete selection center frequency Notch out the centre frequency of a spectral selection, or filter above or below it.
- Amplify selection center frequency Boost or cut a peak centred on the middle frequency of a spectral selection.
- Amplify selection Boost or cut the band of frequencies marked out by a spectral selection.
