Find Clipping

Find Clipping was an Audacity 3 analyzer that searched a selection for runs of consecutive samples at full scale and placed a label on each one. Audacity 4 does not ship it, and there is no Find Clipping entry in the Analyze menu.

What to use instead

Show clipping in waveform does the same job visually. With it on, clipped regions are marked directly in the waveform, so you can see where they are, zoom in on them, and judge how long each run is, without generating a label track first.

Notes

Clipping is only fixable by re-recording at a lower level. Once the peaks are flat there is no information left to restore, so what these tools give you is a verdict on a recording rather than a repair — although Clip Fix can reconstruct short clipped passages well enough to be worth trying.
