Amplify selection

Raises or lowers the level of the frequency band you have marked out in a spectral selection, leaving the frequencies outside it alone. Use it to lift a part that is buried, or to pull down a resonance or a band of noise without removing it altogether.

Making the selection

This effect works on a spectral selection, so the track has to be showing a spectrogram before you can make one — see Toggle Spectral View. Drag in the spectrogram to select both a time range and a frequency range; the effect then acts only on that rectangle.

Controls

• Gain (dB) — −24 to 24, default 0. How much to boost or cut the selected band. At 0 the effect does nothing.

Notes

The filtering is built from shelf filters set at the lower and upper edges of the selection. If you selected only an upper bound, a low-shelf is used; only a lower bound gives a high-shelf; both bounds give a band between the two.

A 10 ms fade is applied at each end of the selection so the processed section blends into the surrounding audio rather than starting abruptly.

If the upper and lower frequencies are the same the selection has no width and the effect reports an error.
